Blogger is a very useful jumping off point for beginning your own business. You can have as many blogs as you want, you get approved for Adsense almost instantly and by creating a review blog, you can use your blogger link when submitting to article directories. It is by far the easiest and fastest way to get started with Adsense.
True, Adsense can be used as an additional source of income. As an added note, I think you should be selective as to where you put it. If you have built a review site and are promoting as an affiliate, do you want the visitor to click away before they have an opportunity to finish reading it? So it would probably suit you better to have some knowledge on the placement of the ads.
